About Simon Morris + Chris Higham

Tell us a little bit about where the inspiration to set the light bulb free came from.

Our CEO, Simon Morris, is fascinated by science and art. He has been tinkering with magnetic levitation since 2009 and has built many strange levitating objects such as hoverboards and even floating shoes for Nike. He always dreamt of introducing wireless power into the equation and levitating the lightbulb, which Simon sees as an icon of our time.

Where did the design for the collection begin?

The FLYTE Light was first introduced via a Kick-starter crowdfunding campaign in 2015. It became Sweden's highest ever funded crowdfunded product and received a lot of attention throughout the world.

How do you use your FLYTE light?

It can take a little bit of practice but it's worth it when you get it right. Lower the bulb directly down from above, holding it with both hands around the bottom of the lightbulb. You have to aim for the centre of the base and gently let go when you feel the bulb start to levitate. To illuminate the LEDs simply tap the hidden touch switch located on the front-right corner.

What do the lamps say about your company?

The lamps embody innovation, Scandinavian design and a sprinkling of magic. This says a lot about what FLYTE is all about!

What does a typical day look like?

Our team works out of a small boutique office/shop in the heart of Stockholm, Sweden. This is where we design our new products, conduct R&D and show our technologies to all interested passers-by.

    How did FLYTE get started?

The co-founders of FLYTE met in Sweden where we specialized shooting movies in space. The most notable was EYES IN SPACE, which was the world's first 360 degree immersive VR experience in space, in collaboration with the musician Jos Gonzalez. On the day of it's release it was the 8th most searched website in the world.

If FLYTE lights were human, what would they say?

Be brave, play with me and figure out how I work...
